As many as 21 firefighters and three helicopters are currently working to extinguish a five hectare fire north of Squamish.
The North Cloudburst Fire in Squamish Valley is a rank 3 fire, which is a moderately vigorous surface fire.
It is, however, in steep terrain, located about 20 kilometres north-west of Squamish.
“It was reported to us late yesterday, and considering that conditions are hot and dry, we may see more growth,” said Gordon Robinson, fire information officer with the Coastal Fire Centre.
Robinson said the cause of the fire has yet to be determined. “I don’t have anything to indicate a cause,” he said.
He said it is important that the community prevents as well as reports fires. “We have had double the number of human caused fires this year, compared to last year,” he said.
