The District of North Vancouver will consider giving a third reading to a proposed 21-unit townhome development at 3712-3718  Edgemont Boulevard.

The application, submitted by Robert Blaney Design, will be discussed by the council on March 17, 2025, where staff will recommend it receive first, second, and third readings. The project proposes 21 two-storey townhouses with parking for 40 vehicles, including four visitor stalls. The development will require rezoning and a permit to address building form, energy efficiency, and greenhouse gas reduction if approved.

The site is currently home to a 1951-built structure with four self-contained homes, is listed on the District’s Community Heritage Register as part of “Shalal Gardens,” a cluster of similar buildings designed by architect Fred Hollingsworth. The surrounding area includes townhouses, duplexes, and additional self-contained residences.

A preliminary application was received in July 2023, followed by an early input meeting later that year. The detailed application was submitted in May 2024, and two public information meetings—one virtual and one in-person—were held in September 2024.

We need to think more about preserving our heritage sites/buildings in North Van before we have no heritage left!
