Parking changes will begin in Lower and Central Lonsdale from mid-September to November 2025 as part of the City’s Curb Access and Parking Plan. Council approved the plan on April 14, 2025.

The plan aims to make street parking more reliable and accessible while supporting businesses through improved curb management. Its three priorities are improving parking reliability in high-demand areas, introducing more equitable parking policies, and supporting local businesses.

According to the City, competition for curb space has made it hard for people to find spots near homes and shops and to load or unload goods safely. The plan sets a target of no more than 85 percent of on-street parking in use at any time to ensure some spaces remain available.

To meet that target, the City will expand residential permit zones and add pay parking in commercial areas. The plan also includes accessible parking spaces and designated loading zones.

“Parking demand is highest in Lower and Central Lonsdale, so that is where we are beginning implementation,” the City said in a statement. Parking changes begin in Lower and Central Lonsdale starting from mid-September to November 2025, followed by a monitoring period in 2026. Further changes to this area may be made during this assessment period.
