West Vancouver Police have identified the driver involved in a hit-and-run that left a 62-year-old pedestrian with injuries on March 11.
Police have identified driver as a 79-year-old resident of West Vancouver.
She has been given a 24-month driving prohibition, and charged her under the Motor Vehicle Act for driving without due care and failing to remain at the scene.
She is liable to pay $732.00 in fines.
On March 11, at 9:53 am, West Vancouver Police, West Vancouver Fire & Rescue and BC Ambulance attended to the 700 block of 15th Street in West Vancouver for a report of a pedestrian involved motor vehicle incident.
The pedestrian, a 62-year-old West Vancouver resident, was walking on the sidewalk of 15th street when he was struck from behind by a vehicle travelling southbound on 15th street.
The man was allegedly carried on the hood of the vehicle for half of a block before ending up on the ground while the driver fled away.
The victim was rushed to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses reported the vehicle involved continued southbound and made no attempts to stop.
On March 12, the unoccupied suspect vehicle was located near the scene of the collision and was seized for further investigation. Forensic investigators were able to match evidence from the scene to the vehicle itself.
Following a thorough investigation, officers submitted a detailed “High-Risk Driving Incident Report” to the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles, which outlined the circumstances of the incident.
Meanwhile, the 62-year-old pedestrian was discharged from hospital one week after the incident.
Criminal charges are not being considered in this matter.
