A brand new rec centre opens on North Shore next week

Staff report
April 11, 2022 7:11am

A brand new recreation centre is opening on North Shore next week. The new Lions Gate Community Recreation Centre will be opening for drop-in activities on April 20 at 1733 Lions Gate Lane, in the heart of the new Lions Gate Village.

While drop-in activities begin on April 20, the registered programs will begin on May 2. The rec centre is located in the new LARCO residential development that is being built just west of Capilano Road, between Curling Road and Fullerton Avenue.

It features a full-sized gymnasium with basketball, volleyball, badminton, and pickleball, and will also have an express library operated by the North Vancouver District Public Libraries.

It will also include community spaces, a meeting room and a room with comfortable seating areas, and a kitchen for gatherings, classes, and group lunches.

Community members will also be able to enjoy a variety of recreation, education, arts & culture and social programs in this new facility, which will be operated by North Vancouver Recreation & Culture.

Additional community services will also be provided by Capilano Community Services Society and North Vancouver District Public Library.  Office space for community service groups, such as Capilano Community Services Society, will also be included as well as a district-owned public plaza with play spaces and outdoor seating.

The front doors of the centre will face out to a new pedestrian-friendly street and outdoor public plaza, which is being built between the north and south buildings of the new residential development.

Take a look at this video of the new facility.  For more information on the amenities, visit the Lions Gate Community Recreation Centre page.

It will be a weights room also , like a gym ..? I cannot see it from the video . There are no more gyms available in the area since Fitness World closed at Staples Plaza ( Capilano rd and Marine dr ) and Park Royal . We need it for our health !
