Alert: Expect increase in traffic, parking restrictions at Shipyards Festival

Staff report
September 20, 2024 7:10am

The City of North Vancouver is informing the community about increased traffic and crowds in Lower Lonsdale on September 21, 2024. On September 21, the Shipyards Festival returns to Lower Lonsdale from 12 pm to 10 pm.

Hosted by Lower Lonsdale Business Improvement Area (LLBIA), the free event features live music on multiple stages as well as activations and vendors located at Shipbuilders’ Square, Shipyard Commons, Burrard Dry Dock and the 100 Block of East 1st Street.

 Road Closures and Parking Impacts

On September 21:

From 5 a.m. to 12 a.m., the 100 block of East 1st Street (between Lonsdale ave and St Georges ave) will have parking restrictions and be closed to vehicle traffic.

From 5 a.m. to 12 a.m., the Electric Vehicle chargers located at 140 East 1st Street will not be available.

From 5 a.m. to 12 a.m., loading bays on Victory Ship Way and Wallace Mews will have parking restrictions (event parking only).

Traffic Impacts and Crowds

The event is expected to draw a large amount of visitors to the Lower Lonsdale and Shipyards area:

Expect parking in the area to be limited.

Expect traffic and potential transit delays. Please refer to service updates from TransLink at translink.ca/alerts.

Plan extra time for your activities.

Be patient with staff and other visitors – let’s keep The Shipyards a fun space!

Visitors are encouraged to walk, take transit, or bike to The Shipyards. Bike parking is located throughout the area and a free bike valet will be available on-site during the event. Access is easy by transit, with the SeaBus arriving right at The Shipyards and bus connections nearby.

This fun community event, has already become an overcrowded nightmare. Makes it hard to enjoy my own neighbourhood.
