Alert: Stanley Park tree removal to impact Lions Gate Bridge traffic

staff report
December 17, 2023 1:49am

In the coming weeks, major arterial routes including the Stanley Park Causeway will be temporarily restricted to allow the urgent removal of trees compromised by the ongoing hemlock looper moth infestation.

Traffic impacts are as follows:

Sunday, Dec. 17, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. (if necessary)

One lane closure on the Causeway

One lane in each direction will be retained.

Northbound pedestrians and bikes will be detoured through Stanley Park and to west side of the Causeway/bridge.

Saturday, Jan. 13 & Sunday, Jan. 14, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Sunday, Jan. 21, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Saturday, Jan. 27, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.

One lane closure on the Causeway

One lane in each direction will be retained.

Southbound pedestrians and bikes will be detoured through Stanley Park and to east side of the Causeway/bridge.

Sunday, Jan. 28, 8 a.m. – 11 a.m.

Full closure of Causeway and Lions Gate Bridge to drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.

Traffic detoured over Ironworkers Memorial/Second Narrows Bridge.

Park visitors will also experience intermittent closures for trails that lead to the Causeway during these times. Please obey all signage and directives, and avoid active worksites within Stanley Park for your own safety and that of staff working within the park.

While all efforts have been made to keep delays to a minimum, please expect delays/transit changes and plan ahead.
