Backcountry routes closed at Lynn Headwaters Regional Park

STAFF REPORT
October 27, 2020 2:06pm

Metro Vancouver has shut down the backcountry routes at Lynn Headwaters Regional Park.

The routes were closed yesterday, October 26.

The closure applies to routes beyond Norvan Falls (Hanes Valley, Coliseum Mountain and Lynn Lake) as well as routes in the Grouse subalpine north of Dam Mountain and Thunderbird Ridge (e.g. Crown Mountain, Goat Mountain,Little Goat & Goat Ridge).

A stair construction project is under way on the north end of Lynn Loop Trail on the switchbacks section.

However, public access is still possible on a short, steep bypass trail section with a hand line.

This project is expected to be complete by Dec 2020.

Metro Vancouver warns that snow and ice is present at the halfway point on the BCMC route at Grouse Mountain Regional Park.

“Microspikes are recommended, as are good footwear and seasonally appropriate clothing. Carry water and a snack. And be sure to leave enough time to finish your hike before the sun sets,” Metro Vancouver advises.
