John Rustad, leader of the British Columbia Conservatives, has announced plans for an independent investigation into the escalating costs of the North Vancouver wastewater treatment plant. Originally projected at a much lower cost, the project has ballooned to $3.86 billion, leaving North Vancouver residents facing an additional $725 in yearly taxes for the next 30 years.
Rustad attributed the financial mismanagement to Premier David Eby and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, criticizing their leadership for allowing the project to spiral out of control. “This isn’t just about cost overruns; it’s about a failure in leadership,” said Rustad. “British Columbians deserve answers.”
The project, initially intended as a green infrastructure initiative, has become a financial burden for residents, sparking widespread frustration. Recently, a community group also urged local candidates to reveal their position on how they would deal with the North Shore Wastewater Treatment fiasco. Rustad emphasized transparency, calling for a comprehensive review of the decision-making processes that led to the excessive costs of the plant. He vowed that, under a Conservative government, a full investigation would expose how the project reached its current financial state.
“British Columbians have a right to know where their tax dollars are going,” Rustad said, adding that the investigation would prevent such costly mismanagement in the future.
A full independent investigation is already started.
In my view this fiasco of miss management crosses all boundaries
of political parties.
Thank you John Rustad for your concerns .
