BC Ferries will suspend all food services on-board ships and at terminals, with the exception of northern routes.
BC Ferries said customers were no longer buying grab-and-go items, which resulted in a lot of food being wasted.
The company has decided to donate perishable food items to a food bank in Esquimalt.
Rainbow Kitchen, which is based in Esquimalt, picked up more than 2,400 pounds of food from Swartz Bay.
The food came from five ships and Lands End café, and included things like mashed potatoes, coleslaw and fresh produce like cucumbers and onions.
Rainbow Kitchen serves the community of Esquimalt and beyond with breakfasts and lunches prepared and served every day.
Meanwhile, products from vending machines are still available.
