BC Hydro crews are working to restore electricity service by noon today to about 15,000 customers in North and West Vancouver who lost power this morning after heavy wind caused significant damage to transmission poles.
“The outage impacting the North Shore is a significant one,” says Kyle Donaldson, BC Hydro spokesperson.
“We recognize that the restoration time is lengthy, due to the significant damage to our infrastructure, but we appreciate everyone’s patience as our crews work to get power restored.”
Power went out at about 1:30 a.m. when three power poles were broken on two separate transmission circuits due to falling trees and branches that were damaged by the wind.
Access to one of the circuits is limited so crews will use a helicopter today with specialized equipment to remove trees and branches from power lines.
A storm moved through the Lower Mainland overnight and this morning and caused power outages to about 20,000 customers in the Lower Mainland. Between 1 and 2 a.m., about 34,000 customers were without power in the province.
