An Agassiz man has pleaded guilty to poaching a moose in Dawson Creek in 2017.

He was issued a $4,000 fine and a five-year hunting prohibition. The court also ordered $3,000 of the fine to go to Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation.

It was hunters who first reported the incident to COS in October of 2017. The Vancouver Police Department Forensics Lab also assisted with the investigation.

Conservation Officer Service is urging citizens to report suspected poaching to the Report All Poachers and Polluters (RAPP) line at 1-877-952-7277.

Meanwhile, COS is appealing to public to locate hunters from Nanaimo suspected of harvesting mule deer in an area in Alberta known for a highly contagious and deadly deer disease.

The disease is yet to be detected in BC, but COS say human importation is the highest threat of its introduction to BC wildlife.
