BC’s most wanted criminal is arrested in California

An ‘extremely violent’ man wanted for 2017 homicide in Surrey has been arrested in California.

The Butte County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) in California announced the arrest of BC’s most wanted man, Brandon Teixeira.

The arrest has been confirmed by Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT). Brandon Teixeira was charged with the first-degree murder of Nicholas Khabra of Surrey in October of 2017. In April this year, police also announced an award of $50,000 for any information leading to his arrest.

“The arrest was made possible through a collaborative effort of the RCMP’s liaison office in Los Angeles and a U.S. Marshall-led task force, along with the Butte County SWAT, the Tehama SWAT and the Chico Police Department,” IHIT spokesperson Frank Jang told the media.

U.S. Marshals had received information that Teixeira was possibly in the Oroville area, Butte County’s Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) said in a statement.

BCOS began assisting the U.S. Marshal’s Office with the investigation, which determined that Teixeira was living in Oroville, California.

On November 30, BCSO obtained a search warrant for a residence where he was believed to be hiding and conducted on-going surveillance. On the morning of December 1, a police SWAT Team and detectives executed a search warrant.

Teixeira and a man later identified as Jeff Guerrier of New York tried to run away in a vehicle, but were arrested with the help of a K9 unit.

After obtaining a medical clearance at a local hospital, U.S. Marshals took custody of Teixeira and are holding him in federal custody pending extradition proceedings.

Police also found 26 pounds of heroin, over 1,000 OxyContin and Percocet pills, and an estimated 40 pounds of marijuana at the residence where Teixeira was hiding.
