Bear killed in Deep Cove

Staff report
June 27, 2021 11:04am

A bear was killed in Deep Cove on Saturday for entering an occupied home through a screen door and accessing food, said the North Shore Black Bear Society.

The society is trying to find more information on the bear and this incident.

“If you see a bear in a trap on the North Shore please call us immediately so we can make extra efforts to connect with BCCOS,” said Luci Cadman, the society’s director.

“Never should a bear suffer in a baited metal trap, but in this heat it is inhumane and all we can do now is help to reduce the bear’s suffering,”

According to BCCOS, the bear had been very active in the area but the officers were also unaware.

The society says locals help bears by ensuring no lower level doors, windows and garage doors are left open.
“If you move to another area of your home, even for a moment, please close doors,” Cadman said.

Please let the North Shore Black Bear Society know if you see a bear: They can be reached at
