District of North Vancouver has awarded the 2019 Community Heritage Award to Blue Cabin restoration project.
It was awarded to Glen Alteen of the Grunt Gallery, Esther Rausenberg of the Creative Cultural Collaborations, and Barbara Cole of the Other Sights for Artists’ Projects.
The award was presented in recognition of the effort to restore, relocate, and repurpose the Blue Cabin into a floating artist residence and studio space.
The Blue Cabin is considered to be the last surviving example of the many squatters’ cabins which were located along the Burrard Inlet coastline.
David Cook was presented with the Heritage Advocacy award for his contribution to building understanding about local old-growth trees and his advocacy work through collecting and sharing information, and education.
The 2019 design excellence award was presented to 3730 Edgemont Boulevard, designed by Harbourview Projects, Office of McFarlane Biggar, and Forma Design Inc.
In particular, the panel commended the design team on its modern response to architectural heritage within the neighbourhood, site planning that maximizes outdoor spaces, and and overall material selection and workmanship.
The Design Excellence Awards are presented annually by DNV’s Advisory Design Panel, which encourages excellence in design and recognizes projects that significantly contribute to the built environment of the District of North Vancouver.
