Two North Shore MLAs, Bowinn Ma and Susie Chant, were sworn into the BC Legislature virtually today.
Ma was re-elected as the BC New Democrat MLAs for North Vancouver–Lonsdale while Chant was elected to represent North Vancouver–Seymour.
They joined the largest BC New Democrat caucus ever elected.

“Representing the people of North Vancouver has been one of the greatest honours – and greatest responsibilities – of my life,” said Bowinn Ma, MLA for North Vancouver–Lonsdale.
“I am eager to join our talented, diverse New Democrat team to continue our work on the biggest challenges facing the people of B.C. right now.”
The 57 BC NDP members were sworn in as part of British Columbia’s 42nd Parliament, all focused on supporting people through the COVID-19 pandemic and delivering on their commitments to British Columbians, read a media release issued by BC NDP.
“I’ve spent my career working hard to help people in my community, and as an MLA I am looking forward to continuing that work on a larger scale,” said Susie Chant, MLA for North Vancouver–Seymour.
“People are going through tough times right now, and it’s vital that our government is committed to keeping them healthy and safe.”
According to the media release, the election of this New Democrat caucus features a number of notable milestones, including:
First majority-women governing caucus in Canadian history
Largest BC NDP caucus in history
Highest number of IBPOC MLAs ever elected in a caucus in BC
