North Shore residents can expect heavy traffic as City of North Vancouver plans to close the Mosquito Creek bridge for construction this weekend.

The bridge will close on Friday, February 28 at 7 pm and will remain closed until 11 pm on Sunday, March 11pm.

During this closure crews will separate the northern side of the bridge from the southern side. Local business access will be provided, however people will not be able to cross Mosquito Creek using Marine Drive.

Detours will be in effect, but traffic is expected to be heavy and it’s best to avoid the area if possible, city says.

Alternative routes recommended include West 2nd Street and West 1st Street for lower level routing and West 16th Street and Larson Road or Highway 1 for upper level routing.

Once completed, the new, wider bridge will provide an improved experience for pedestrians, cyclists, transit users and drivers, city says.

The new bridge will include four lanes of traffic, transit lanes in each direction, sidewalks and protected bike lanes on both sides, a new multi-use path under Marine Drive connecting the Mosquito Creek trail.
