The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has recalled pistachio kernels sold in a North Vancouver supermarket due to possible Salmonella contamination, in a recall notice issued Tuesday.
The product, indicated by a UPC code starting with ‘200422’, was sold at the Kourosh Foods Market on Lonsdale Avenue in North Vancouver.
According to the CFIA, “contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick.” Young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems may contract serious and sometimes deadly infections, while others may experience short-term symptoms such as fever and nausea.
The CFIA said that there have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product, but the agency is working to ensure that industry is removing recalled products from the marketplace.
The CFIA has issued more than 25 recalls of pistachio products across the country since July.
