The City of North Vancouver is seeking public input on proposed parking and curb use changes across the city. In a press release, the City of North Vancouver said the initiative addresses challenges in accessing curb space, exacerbated by the growing diversity of transportation modes and increased passenger and goods deliveries.

The public engagement process, which began on June 17 and will run until July 8, offers online and in-person opportunities for residents to share feedback. The insights gathered will help shape the plan and implementation strategy, which will be presented to the City Council later this year. Details on how to participate are available at letstalk.cnv.org/Curb.

The proposed policy changes, developed through community input and analysis of current demands, include:

Implementing pay parking in high-demand areas: This aims to encourage turnover and increase availability in busy parts of the city.

Modernizing the parking permit program: Expanding to zone-based permits and adjusting eligibility criteria and costs based on demand.

Expanding loading zones: Creating more short-term loading spaces for the safe and efficient movement of people and goods.

Increasing accessible parking: Adding more on-street parking spaces for people with disabilities near shops, services, and key destinations.

Supporting other curb users: Allocating special-use parking for EV charging and car-share parking needs.

The Curb Access and Parking Plan supports the City’s Mobility Strategy, adopted in 2022, which focuses on creating a safe, vibrant, low-carbon city with diverse transportation options. This direction is also outlined in the Council’s Strategic Plan (2022-2026) and the Official Community Plan (2014).

Inquiries can be directed to cityparking@cnv.org or the City’s Gateway service at 604-982-9675.

I am in my late 80s, and use a walker. Parking spaces along curbs for people like me are totally inadequate. I don’t see any mention in the write up about people like me, and there are many of us trying to stay active and mobile.

    Please include this population’s requirements.

    Thanks
