Climber dies after fall from Stawamus Chief in Squamish

June 22, 2019 6:49pm

A climber is dead after falling 30 metre from The Grand Wall area of the Stawamus Chief mountain.

The incident happened early afternoon. Squamish RCMP say they received a call around 1:45 today, June 22nd, for request for assistance related to the incident.

Squamish RCMP, BC Ambulance Service, and Squamish Search and Rescue attended to The Grand Wall area of The Stawamus Chief and found the climber. He had fallen approximately 30 metres whilst rock climbing.

The BC Coroners Service has now taken over the investigation and the Squamish RCMP are working to contact the man’s next of kin.  His name will not be released at this time.

“This is a terrible accident and our thoughts are with his friends and family at this difficult time,” said Cpl. Sascha Banks.

She said the police and emergency services have attended to a number of incidents associated at this location over the past few months,” Banks said.
