The City of North Vancouver has announced the return of CityFest, the largest youth-led festival on the North Shore. It takes place on May 11 from 12 pm to 4:30 pm at The Shipyards. The festival will showcase various local youth musicians, bands, visual artists and the skateboarding community.

Road Closures and Parking Impacts

Parking in Lower Lonsdale will be affected. Lonsdale Ave will be closed to vehicle traffic between Esplanade and Carrie Cates Court to accommodate the longboard race. Victory Ship Way will be closed between Lonsdale Ave and Wallace Mews. Carrie Cates will have no public vehicle access between Rogers Ave and Lonsdale Ave.

Traffic Control will assist with Wallace Mews business and parkade access for Pinnacle residents and visitors.

“CityFest is a testament to the boundless talent and creativity of youth in our community,” said Mayor Linda Buchanan. “We recognize the importance of creating interactive and safe spaces for youth to connect with their peers, learn from one another, and have fun to support their growth. Young leaders, artists, athletes, and others make incredible contributions to our city year-round, and that’s why we are so pleased to support CityFest and other youth-oriented activities.”

This year, CityFest offers activities such as skateboarding and longboarding competitions, live music, art, community booths, and various food trucks.

“We’re so excited for the opportunity to showcase youth talent within the community, especially at The Shipyards,” said Nargess Shokouhian, a CityFest Committee member. “CityFest creates a space for the community to unite and highlight all the amazing youth abilities. It’s truly a unique festival that incorporates so many different talents.”

CityFest started in 2002 as a community party to celebrate the opening of the Centennial Skatepark, and has since grown to include musicians, vendors, artists and one of the largest skate competitions in Metro Vancouver. The CityFest Committee is volunteer-based and involves young people who meet throughout the year to organize the event.

CityFest’s 2024 sponsors and community partners include Capilano Community Services, Youth Unlimited, Flatspot Longboards, The Boardroom, Foundry North Shore, North Shore Alliance Church, North Shore Neighbourhood House, North Vancouver Recreation and Culture Commission, and the City of North Vancouver.
