City of North Vancouver has approved a $75,000 grant to the North Shore Rent Bank, a homelessness prevention initiative offered by Harvest Project.
The grant helps protect those experiencing financial hardship as a result of COVID-19 and builds community resiliency.
“We all want to feel safe in our homes,” said Mayor Linda Buchanan.
“This pandemic has put many in our community out of work. To those who are worried about choosing between putting food on the table or paying rent, I want you to know that help is on the way,” she said.
“By investing in the North Shore Rent Bank we are supporting people and helping them stay in their homes.”
The North Shore Rent Bank offers short term, no-interest loans to people that are at risk of eviction or disconnection of essential utilities due to a temporary shortage of funds.
It also provides a security deposit if current housing is deemed unsafe or it’s become necessary to move to different housing for other reasons.
Gary Ansell, Executive Director of Harvest Project, said the North Shore Rent Bank provides tangible help by providing loans and grants.
“We’re able to assist more people who need this life-changing resource. We share the goal of making the city and indeed the entire North Shore, the healthiest place to live, for all of us.”
