CNV extends Shipyards Skate Plaza season

Staff report
March 14, 2022 2:22pm

Families have more ways to have fun and keep their kids busy as the City of North Vancouver has extended The Shipyards Skate Plaza season to March 28.

The region’s largest outdoor skating rink is located in the City’s popular Shipyards and is normally closed at the end of February to prepare for spring activities. The season has been extended to provide families in the City with more options to stay active and healthy through to Spring Break.

“As a mother of four children I know how important it is that fun, active, and affordable activities be accessible for families,” said Mayor Linda Buchanan. “The past two years have been challenging for all of us, especially children. But brighter days are ahead. Ensuring that programming and activities are in place over Spring Break supports the health, wellbeing, and resiliency of children and families while creating a vibrant community for all to enjoy.”

From public skating to community events, residents and families have the following opportunities to explore, play and learn in the City throughout the month of March.

Shipyards Skate Plaza – Open until March 28

Enjoy a visit to the City’s 12,000 square foot, free public skate plaza at The Shipyards, open daily from 1 to 8 p.m. In accordance with provincial health guidelines, masks are no longer mandatory on the ice and we have lifted the 50% capacity limit. Skating, helmets and aides are available for free. Skates can be rented for a small fee. Please plan ahead to avoid peak times.
