The City of North Vancouver is seeking experienced consultants to provide Indigenous learning to its employees. A recent bid notice by CNV calls for a better understanding of Indigenous people’s history, culture, and contemporary issues among its staff, leadership team, and council members.

The city, which employs about 500 people with diverse learning needs, has expressed its commitment to providing Indigenous education to its employees, managers, and council members.

CNV plans to enhance the knowledge of its employees by offering foundational and specialized courses. As part of its inclusion journey, the City of North Vancouver has offered Indigenous Awareness training sessions since 2021, open to all employees, and has seen over 200 employee participation.

However, the city intends to continue providing foundational learning to new and existing employees who have not completed the training and expand into other areas of learning that will help employees deepen their knowledge and develop skills necessary to establish and maintain respectful relationships with Indigenous Peoples.

The city’s bid notice states that the selected consultant/consulting firm will be expected to provide a range of Indigenous learning solutions to help build Indigenous relations and cultural competency of the city’s employees, leadership team, and council members.

The consultant will be responsible for delivering a variety of courses, including training on Indigenous history, culture, the impacts of colonization, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA), and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action.
