A show blending stand-up comedy, storytelling, and social commentary is coming to North Vancouver for three nights only — promising big laughs alongside an unflinching look at how society treats fat people.
Presentation House Theatre (PHT) in Lower Lonsdale will stage Neworld Theatre’s Fat Joke, written and performed by Cheyenne Rouleau, April 16 to 18, 2026. In a press release, PHT described the show as “a vibrant mixture of stand-up comedy, storytelling, and fact-blasting” that turns the spotlight on fatphobia.

Drawing on personal experience and research, Rouleau tackles media misrepresentation, diet culture, mental health, eating disorders, medical bias, ableism, and income disparity — all through comedy. According to the press release, the result is “an evening packed with big laughs, surprising insights, and the kind of humour that brings audiences together.”
“I think this show challenges some assumptions around health and wellness,” Rouleau said. “About what it’s like to really exist in a fat body and have the outside world constantly judging you for something that maybe you can’t control or just something that’s a part of your identity.”
PHT Artistic Managing Director Keltie Forsyth called the show a natural fit for the venue. “Fat Joke shines a light on things we’re usually told not to talk about and then finds laughter there,” Forsyth said. “It’s bold, joyful and absolutely hilarious.”
The press release noted the show has drawn strong critical praise, with Stir reviewer Janet Smith describing it as “fearless, perspective-shifting stuff, full of big laughs and biting humour.”
