Last month was an ample proof that the community supports local.

The Ambleside Dundarave Business Improvement Association’s Holiday Giveaway was a great success all around – for the businesses and for a few lucky shoppers. The Holiday Giveaway saw 517 receipts entered for a total of $51,485 spent at local businesses in Ambleside and Dundarave.

During the month of December, anyone who made a purchase at a business in Ambleside or Dundarave was eligible to enter. Shoppers simply had to put their name and contact information on a valid receipt, then drop the receipt into one of the drop boxes located at the various businesses or submit it online through the ADBIA website.

We are fortunate to have so many small business owners who love what they do, and they each play an important role in supporting our community. They provide a hometown feel by offering personalized shopping, complimentary gift wrapping and an attention to detail.

In Ambleside and Dundarave, we have everything from the clothing boutiques and home decor to bakeries and coffee shops – and each of them rely on the support of loyal customers to keep their doors open, provide wages for their workers, and put food on the table for their own families. By supporting a small business, you are also supporting the community and helping to stimulate the local economy. Our smaller sized businesses help to create and sustain jobs as well as keep the area vibrant and buzzing with shoppers and visitors.

Because it can be more difficult for a small business to stay relevant, they constantly have to work on adding new products to their shelves and new benefits for their customers. This encourages small businesses to innovate, adding unique spins on the things they offer in order to keep customers returning. The products you’ll see at a small business are usually ever-changing. You can also find more personalized, unique items at many small businesses that you won’t see in the big box stores.

In order to encourage shopping and supporting local, the ADBIA held a Holiday Giveaway with the prize draw held on January 4th. The winning entries had a receipt value ranging from $11.55 to $300.16 with purchases made from coffee shops, pet supplies, restaurants, clothing, gift ware, flowers, and services. There were five prize packages up for grabs worth $1,000 each consisting of gift certificates from local businesses as well as 10 consolation prizes of $100 gift certificates.

On behalf of the businesses in Ambleside and Dundarave, thank you to all that supported local this holiday season.
