Construction has begun on a six-storey rental residential building in North Vancouver’s Central Lonsdale neighbourhood that will add 91 new rental homes, including nine more affordable units, according to a press release by the project’s developer, GWL Realty Advisors.

The project, located at 140 West 19th Street, will offer studio to three-bedroom apartments designed for families of all sizes. Construction began following a groundbreaking event on Thursday attended by Mayor Linda Buchanan.

Shared amenities will feature a fitness centre, social lounge, co-working spaces, and pet-friendly facilities such as a dog run and a pet wash station. The development said they will also provide secure bike storage, as well as bike wash and repair facilities.

“Breaking ground on this project reinforces our long-standing commitment to creating high-quality rental housing in North Vancouver and across Canada,” said Glenn Way, President of GWL Realty Advisors.

Mayor Buchanan said the project represents an important step in increasing local housing supply. “As housing costs continue to rise, more people struggle to live near where they work,” she said. “This development will offer much-needed homes to meet the needs of individuals, couples, and families in the vibrant Central Lonsdale neighbourhood.”

With a 1.5 per cent vacancy rate in North Vancouver, the project aims to provide more rental options for residents. Completion is expected in late 2027.
