STAFF REPORT
June 16, 2020 11:28am

Construction is underway at an affordable rental building in Central Lonsdale.  As many as 85 homes for low- to middle-income individuals and families will be built at 125 E. 20th St on Lonsdale Avenue.

Monthly rents will range from approximately $720 for a studio unit to $2,600 for a three-bedroom unit.

The rental building is part of a provincial initiative to construct more than 450 new affordable rental homes in the Lower Mainland.

Last year, the City of North Vancouver approved rezoning for the 85-unit building, which will be built by the non-profit, Vancouver Resource Society.

Of the 85 units, 10 units are proposed to be secured as non-market rental housing.

A significant number of accessible units are proposed for the project, according to a staff report presented to council last year.

The fully-accessible units would be allocated to tenants with disabilities in the non-market rental units.

There will be four studio units, 63 one-bedroom units, 12 two-bedroom units and six three-bedroom units. An indoor and outdoor shared social gathering space with kitchen and washroom, a guest room, and active and passive outdoor areas, including accessible gardening plots, is also provided.

A small office space for the non-profit is also proposed to help serve residents on-site.
