COVID-19: Free counselling service launched

STAFF REPORT
April 30, 2020 9:19am

Government of Canada has launched a new website dedicated to mental health and wellness.

Wellness Together Canada will connect Canadians to peer support workers, social workers, psychologists and other professionals for confidential chat sessions or phone calls.

The access to professionals will make it easy to find credible information and help address mental health and substance use issues, government said.

Wellness Together Canada offers the following at no cost to Canadians: Wellness self-assessment and tracking, self-guided courses, apps, group coaching and peer support, and counselling by text or phone.

“Canadians are being challenged in a number of ways because of isolation, financial and employment uncertainty and disruptions to daily life. Wellness Together Canada provides tools and resources to help Canadians get back on track,” the government said.

There are resources to address low mood, worry, substance use, social isolation and relationship issues.

Stepped Care Solutions, Kids Help Phone, Homewood Health, Greenspace Health, the Mental Health Commission of Canada, and the Canadian Psychological Association have all contributed to the website.

“We are acting today to make it easier for Canadians to identify, understand and address issues they are facing, with multiple tools and resources available on one platform,” said Patty Hajdu, the Minister of Health.
