The COVID-19 outbreak that was declared this past Friday in the Lions Gate Hospital is in the west unit of the fourth floor, VCH has confirmed.
Catherine Loiacono, the Director of Public Affairs and Stakeholder Relations at the Vancouver Coastal Health, told the North Shore Daily Post the outbreak is on the fourth floor, or 4-West as it is called.
The adjacent unit is also placed on enhanced surveillance out of caution, she said.
Loiacono said VCH will not disclose the number of patients that were tested positive for COVID-19 in this particular outbreak.
“We have a policy and we won’t be releasing information about the number of patients that were diagnosed with COVID-19 in this outbreak,” she said.
Upon declaring the outbreak, Vancouver Coastal Health has implemented strict infection prevention and control protocols to prevent further transmission of the virus.
As a result of the COVID-19 outbreak, Lions Gate Hospital has also moved too Phase 2 of the Surgical Surge Plan which means it will prioritize urgent and emergent surgeries.
Patients who may be impacted will be contacted directly.
The emergency department at Lions Gate Hospital remains open, and there has been no impact to other areas of Lions Gate Hospital.
