Delbrook residents have submitted a petition to the District of North Vancouver to implement traffic calming in the area.
The petition was submitted to the council by the Delbrook Community Association, which says speeding on Delbrook is an issue that needs District’s attention.

“On a weekday we have over 600 cars going downhill at over 65 kilometre per hour and on the weekend we have over 1,000 cars going over 65 km per hour in both directions,” says Bev Parslow, a member of the association who said he got the data from the district.
On a typical weekday, Parslow said there were 1,247 cars going between 60 to 65 kilometre per hour, and 111 cars going from 70 km to 140 km per hour. “We now have pedestrian lights at the crosswalks but speeds are excessive. It is dangerous for pedestrians especially at the crosswalks,” he said.
He said the Delbrook Community Association was able to contact 60% of the residents for the survey and an overwhelming 95 % of those surveyed wanted some form of traffic calming.
Parslow said many community members told the association on how dangerous it had become getting on to Delbrook from the neighboring properties. “We would like the District to implement some form of speed reduction. The crosswalks need protection with bump outs. We are not the experts in traffic management so we are relying on the District to come up with the solution,” Parslow said.
“The problem is reckless speeding. Speed enforcement would also be welcome, but it seems resources are limited,” he said. “We are not banning cars. We want people to drive responsibly.”
