The proponents behind the Sewell’s Landing project in Horseshoe Bay are offering $40,000 to improve a trail in-lieu of relocating an existing trail head.
Sewell’s Landing is located in the northwest corner of Horseshoe Bay Village, and backs onto the base of the steep wooded terrain of Telegraph Hill.
As part of the project approval process, there was an agreement between the applicant and the District that the developer will relocate an existing trailhead head north of the project (roughly where Wolseley Street ends) before occupancy.
The area is characterized by steep and rugged terrain and relocating the trail could cause slope stability and other issues, including tree removal. In place of the commitment to relocate the trail, the developer has made a $40,000 contribution to improve an existing trail nearby.
The funds will improve a trail that is approximately 320 metres south of the Sewell’s site and connects Nelson Avenue to Wellington Place and Wellington Avenue.
The money will be used to replace the wood stairs with stone stairs, drainage works. The applicant also offers an additional public right-of-way through the Sewell’s site, which would allow for a connection to a potential future entrance to Tyee Point.
District of West Vancouver council approved these amendments to the permit at a council meeting on January 24.

In my view all our trail networks should be left pristine, no concrete stairs, leave existing
natural trails . A few Developers and self interest groups have contributed to the Urbanization of our mountain scape in a very negative manner.
