District staff to report back on derelict homes in West Vancouver

Staff report
February 22, 2023 12:14pm

In March this year, West Vancouver residents will know how many properties in the District are derelict homes.  At a council meeting on Feb 21, Council informed the public that staff will report back with the information in March.

It was in November last year that council directed staff to report back on the number of unfinished and derelict homes in the District. The staff will also report on the steps that are currently underway to address the issue, and additional tools that could be implemented to address the issue.

Fire Inspections of Strata Garages

It was also in November last year that council  directed staff to prepare an amendment bylaw to repeal the current wording in the Fire Rescue Bylaw.

The repeal will ensure that private storage garages in multi-family residential buildings can be used for the storage of vehicles and household materials. Council also directed staff to report back on the implications of the proposed amendment, and directed staff to pause enforcement of the storage usage of strata garages.

However the exception would be any extenuating circumstances that would be determined by the fire chief until staff has had an opportunity to report back to Council.
