The District of North Vancouver plans to replace the aging staircase leading to the 30-foot pool in Lynn Canyon Park.

After three decades of service, the current wooden staircase, a popular access point for locals and tourists, has deteriorated significantly, prompting the need for its replacement, DNV stated in a notice to residents.

The municipality intends to replicate the existing staircase to maintain its historical significance within the park. The new timber staircase will feature enhancements such as landings, handrails, and retaining walls. The project will unfold in two phases, with trail detours in effect during construction:

Phase 1, commencing in February 2024, will involve hazard tree removals and initial construction work.

Phase 2, scheduled from September to December 2024, will focus on completing the construction process.

Access to the 30-foot pool staircase will be restricted throughout both phases, although it will reopen in June to accommodate the bustling summer season. The project is slated for completion by the end of 2024. DNV emphasized that this initiative aligns with its commitment to managing park assets and vital infrastructure, ensuring safe and enjoyable pedestrian experiences throughout Lynn Canyon Park.

The municipality said the replacement project reflects its dedication to maintaining a dynamic and thriving park system in the community.

So it’s already June! Is the 30 foot pool part of the loop reopened yet? I want to hike up there and do that loop as part of a larger walk. If it’s not reopened yet, can you tell me what date in June will be reopening after phase 1 is complete.

    Thank you!
