DNV plans to remove three homes from heritage register

These properties are located in Edgemont, Upper Lonsdale, and in Delbrook areas of the district

District of North Vancouver council will vote on a staff suggestion at a council meeting next week to remove three properties from the district’s heritage register.

The properties are located in Edgemont, Upper Lonsdale, and the Delbrook area of the District of North Vancouver.

The three properties are: 2895 Newmarket Drive, 5053 Skyline Drive, and 360 Windsor Road East.

The first two properties have been demolished, while the third has undergone major renovations that have significantly altered the exterior and character of the house.

According to a staff report, the property owners of 2895 Newmarket Drive applied for a demolition permit and a building permit for a new house few years ago.

District staff discussed preservation options with them, but they didn’t express interest in protecting the home. The building permit was issued on June 23, 2013 and the demolition permit was issued soon after.

In February 2017, the house located at 5053 Skyline Drive was completely destroyed by a fire, and a demolition permit to remove the remaining house was issued later that year.

In February 2016, the owners of 360 Windsor Road East submitted a Heritage Revitalization Agreement application. Based on feedback received at the public hearing, however, council decided against allowing the application.

The owners then applied for and were issued a building permit for a major addition to the house.

District of North Vancouver is also giving a new look to the heritage register and making it easier for people to navigate.

Incorrect, out-dated, and poor-quality photos will also be removed and property descriptions will be updated to correct inaccuracies.

There will be a new addition to the register with 3075 Fromme Road listed as a heritage home.

The district has also received requests from the owners to have two properties removed from the register. Those include 382 St. James Road East, and 389 St. James Road East.

However, staff is recommending that they be kept on the register.

In BC we say 360 E. Windsor Rd. Saying Windsor Rd East is bad for IMO
