DNV seeks input on ‘more accessible’ Gallant Ave in Deep Cove

Staff report
June 7, 2022 6:00pm

District of North Vancouver is working to create a more accessible Gallant Avenue in Deep Cove. DNV residents are being invited to share their thoughts from June 6 – 26.

DNV is also holding an Open House on June 15, 2022 at Cove Cliff Elementary from 5:30 pm-8:30 pm.

This project proposes to formalize the flexible, protected pedestrian space and make the one-way traffic configuration permanent on lower Gallant Avenue. The design of this block of Gallant Avenue between Panorama Drive and Banbury Road also features improved pedestrian areas and gathering spaces, and incorporates landscaping, street trees, and rain gardens.

“The project builds on the very positive feedback we’ve received as a result of the temporary expanded pedestrian area and through community engagement last summer,” says DNV.

DNV received grant funding approval for $3.3 million on June 11, 2021 and conducted community engagement between June 14 and 30, 2021 to inform the community and collect feedback on prosed improvements in the lower Gallant pedestrian area.

District says 82% of respondents strongly or somewhat strongly support change on lower Gallant in Deep Cove Village as part of the Livable Deep Cove Plan, and 66% were very satisfied or somewhat satisfied with the full renewal concept, which was the most favoured of the three concepts proposed.

There is nothing “accessible” for people trying to drive into the cove and park. All it does is create a massive outdoor patio for Honey Donuts
