DNV shuts down public facilities

Staff report
March 16, 2020 6:00pm

District of North Vancouver has closed its facilities with the exception of full day spring break camps. Those camps will continue to run until March 27.

These are the facilities that will be closed.

Delbrook Community Recreation Centre

Karen Magnussen Community Recreation Centre

Ron Andrews Community Recreation Centre

Parkgate Community Centre

North Vancouver Tennis Centre

North Vancouver Recreation Commission will continue to allow child care centres to continue to operate, as their spaces are isolated.

Full details can be found on the NVRC website at nvrc.ca.

The North Vancouver District Public Library will also close its facilities as of 9 pm this evening.

“Closing facilities is not a decision we take lightly. The health of the community comes first so together with our partners, we took the significant step today to close these public places,” said District of North Vancouver Mayor Mike Little.

“This is a good opportunity to go outside and enjoy our sports fields and trails with your family. Be safe. Stay home if you’re sick, isolate yourself for 14 days if you have traveled outside of Canada, and make sure you and your family members wash your hands.”

Future closures may include District facilities such as the Lynn Canyon Ecology Centre and Maplewood Farm. Any additions will be announced in the coming days.

DNV is also asking community groups that use the District Hall for meetings to consider alternate ways of meeting, such as virtual meetings, or to defer their gatherings.

Residents can expect no disruptions to municipal services, including garbage and recycling collection, and DNV will inform residents as the situation continues to evolve.
