DNV to remove 39 hazard trees; road closure, detour on Mountain Highway

Staff report
July 15, 2024 10:53am

Starting July 15, the District of North Vancouver will remove 39 hazard trees on a steep slope on the north side of Hoskins Road between Mountain Highway and Greenock Place.

Hazard trees are damaged, dead, or dying trees at risk of falling or losing significant branches that pose a risk to public safety.  For this time, Hoskins Road will be closed entirely between Arborlynn Drive and Greenock Place during daytime hours between 9 am and 5 pm, Monday to Friday.  The district says that road closures are required to accommodate the heavy equipment needed to remove the hazard trees on the slope safely.

The work is anticipated to take eight or nine days. The District of North Vancouver is urging people to obey all signage and traffic control personnel. Meanwhile, a portion of the Hastings Creek trail is closed until further notice because a fallen tree has damaged a bridge on the path. The bridge is located at the southern end of Hastings Creek Park.

The damage has closed the trail at either entrance, and there is no through access for safety. The bridge must be assessed and rebuilt before the trail can reopen as a through trail. People are reminded to obey the signage at the trail entrances.
