On January 28, 2020, at approximately 1:20 PM, Whistler RCMP attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the market place parking lot of a vehicle which had licence plates attached that were not registered to the vehicle.
The vehicle immediately fled the area and headed south on Highway 99 toward Vancouver. No pursuit was initiated but observations and communications were made by Whistler RCMP to Squamish RCMP that the vehicle was headed their way.
Squamish RCMP located the vehicle as it entered Squamish and again the vehicle fled in a dangerous manner southbound on Highway 99. The RCMP notified the West Vancouver Police and Police Helicopter ‘AIR 1’ which were able to follow the suspect vehicle to the West Vancouver Park Royal Mall.
As a result of this coordinated police response, four people were safely taken into custody.
The four male individuals in their 20’s are from the Lower Mainland and are known to police with one male being wanted Canadawide for forcible confinement in Ontario.
The Whistler RCMP thank their policing partners — Squamish RCMP, Sea to Sky Traffic Services, AIR 1 and West Vancouver Police — as well as sharp-eyed members of the public for their assistance in bringing this event to a safe and successful conclusion.
