North Vancouver RCMP are investigating a collision where a transport truck hit the Main Street overpass forcing closure of BC Highway 1 in North Vancouver. At this point, driver is still outstanding and his identity remains unknown in this North Vancouver accident , said Cst. Mansoor Sahak of the North Vancouver RCMP.

Police have followed up with the owner of the transport truck and have issued them a violation ticket for Fail to Remain at the scene of accident. The incident happened yesterday around 7 pm, when North Vancouver RCMP were alerted of a collision on the highway. Officers attended and quickly learned that the driver had fled the scene of the accident after hitting the overpass.

Due to concerns about the structural integrity of the overpass, the eastbound lanes of Highway One were temporarily closed to traffic, which caused significant traffic delays for the evening commuters. Engineers subsequently deemed the overpass to be structurally safe, and the crash was cleared. Just before 3:30 a.m., the highway was once again opened to traffic.

North Vancouver RCMP are working in conjunction with Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE) to investigate the incident.
