Drunk driver going wrong-way on Lillooet Road off ramp issued 90-day ban

October 4, 2022 4:00pm

An impaired driver was handed a 90-day prohibition by North Vancouver RCMP for going the wrong way on Highway 1.

“What’s worse than driving impaired? Driving impaired and going the wrong way on a Highway off-ramp,” North Van RCMP said in a twitter post.

North Van RCMP officers caught the driver at Lillooet Road off ramp at Highway 1. The driver’s vehicle was also  impounded for a month.

On September 21, a vehicle travelling the wrong way caused serious injuries on Highway 1 in West Vancouver.

The accident happened around 11:28 am on Highway 1 eastbound, between Cypress Bowl Rd and 22nd street. Early reports indicate that the driver of the motorhome was travelling westbound in the eastbound lanes when the vehicle caused two other vehicles to swerve before going head-on with the third and final vehicle.

Five ambulances transported five people to the hospital. Two are believed to be in critical condition, while four sustained minor injuries. “This is a tragic incident,” says Cst. Nicole Braithwaite. “We are looking for any witnesses who may have information in regard to this incident to please contact police.”

The investigation is ongoing.

I have seen two cars go the wrong way on the Lillooet Road hwy off-ramp who were coming westbound from the parkway. My husband has seen a car do it too. This doesn’t seem to be a very rare occurrence!!
