West Vancouver has opened the East Cypress Climb Trail, the community’s first designated uphill mountain biking route. The trail, which also allows two-way hiking, officially opened on Wednesday, September 10.

The District of West Vancouver worked with British Properties and the North Shore Mountain Bike Association (NSMBA) to complete the project. A portion of the trail runs through British Properties land, and the company also provided funding support.

At the opening, Squamish Nation member Calvin Charlie-Dawson delivered a Territorial Welcome to recognize the cultural and environmental significance of the area.

Part of the new route incorporates the Old Forks Trail, which historically connected hikers and skiers to the Hollyburn area. According to the District, the reconstruction and formalization of the path improves safety and access for all users.

The East Cypress Climb Trail adds to three other formalized mountain biking routes in the area—Meat Sweats, Jersey Shore, and Morgies—which remain under ongoing care and maintenance by NSMBA.

“This project reflects a shared commitment to responsible recreation and access to the natural environment,” the District said in a statement.
