Drivers can expect delays on the Lions Gate Bridge from 8 pm on Saturday, July 20, until 8 am on Sunday, July 21. Crews will be repairing the expansion joint at the north tower of the bridge in this time.
To facilitate this work, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has designed a temporary construction bridge. This design includes long, smooth tapered approaches to ensure motorists do not experience any bumps while driving over the bridge.
The temporary construction bridge will be installed July 20–21 and will require single-lane alternating traffic. This work, however, is weather dependent.
The following lane closures will be in effect:
- 8 pm to 10 pm on Saturday, July 20 – one lane open in each direction
- 10 pm on Saturday, July 20, to 8 am on Sunday, July 21 – single-lane, alternating traffic
Once the temporary bridge is in place, crews will work beneath the bridge deck and primarily out of sight until October 2019. Drivers are encouraged to use the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge as an alternative route.
All travellers are reminded to obey signs and watch for workers and traffic control personnel. The sidewalks on either side of the bridge, however, will be open for pedestrians and cyclists at all times.
