Fire crews from the District of North Vancouver Fire & Rescue Services are actively responding to a structure fire at Silverlynn Apartments, located at 1335 27th Street.
Emergency personnel have evacuated residents from the building, and a Reception Centre has been set up at Westlynn Baptist Church at 1341 27th Street to support those displaced by the fire. North Shore Emergency Management is providing Emergency Support Services on site.
Officials are asking the public to avoid the area as firefighting operations continue.
Mayor Mike Little: “Significant Damage” Reported
In a statement Saturday, District of North Vancouver Mayor Mike Little confirmed a major fire at the Silver Lynn Seniors complex in Lynn Valley, calling the damage to the building “significant.” “All of our services are activated and attending to the evacuated residents,” Little said. “We are still waiting for a full assessment of the residents’ condition, as many were dispersed when crews arrived. A full accounting has not yet been completed.”
The mayor warned that it will take several hours for the fire to be fully extinguished and urged the public to give emergency crews the space they need to respond effectively.
