Fortis working to restore natural gas to 230 customers in North Van

Staff report
October 8, 2021 5:04pm

FortisBC crews are working to restore natural gas service to approximately 230 customers in North Vancouver, following third-party damage to our natural gas system.

“We are working on repairing the third-party damage safely and as quickly as possible,” the company said.

“Once we complete repairs and reactivate the impacted portion of the system, our crews restore service by visiting each affected home or business to turn natural gas back on at the meter and relight all affected appliances,” FortisBC said.

Fortis expects to complete repairs this afternoon and our crews will be starting the process of relighting customers’ appliances around 4 p.m. today.

FortisBC reminds everyone that if you smell rotten eggs or hear the sound of escaping natural gas, stop what you’re doing, go outside and dial 9-1-1 or call FortisBC’s 24-hour emergency line. More information on natural gas safety is available at fortisbc.com.

You can also contact the emergency number at 1-877-711-8877 to arrange for FortisBC to restore your service.

What is ‘third party damage’ ?

Vandalism? Activist party damage? Poor work by contractors?
