New Democrat MLAs Susie Chant and Bowinn Ma are announcing recipients of provincial funding to help make sure local fairs, festivals and other events continue throughout 2023 and 2024.
“Whether we’re connecting through art, music, culture, food, or fitness, local events bring people together,” said Susie Chant, MLA for North Vancouver-Seymour. “This funding is supporting a wide range of events in our community, allowing people in North Vancouver and throughout BC to enjoy these festivities and celebrate everything our community has to offer.”
In North Vancouver, 25 events are receiving a total of $376,800 including $129,700 for Squamish Nation’s 100th Amalgamation Anniversary Celebration, $23,300 for MRG Event’s Shipyard’s Festival, and $17,700 for the Vancouver International Mountain Film Fall Festival. With $340,600 going to West Vancouver; a grand total of $717,400 is going to the North Shore.
This investment into local events is part of the $30 million in one-time grants the province pledged for Fairs, Festivals, and Events to continue the recovery of a vibrant and strong tourism industry and support our innovative arts industry in B.C.
“More and more community events are returning to North Vancouver since the pandemic, and we’re thrilled to support so many North Shore event organizers with Fairs, Festivals, and Events funding. Of particular importance this year is the Squamish Nation’s 100th Amalgamation Anniversary Celebration, which is receiving a $129,700 grant from the province. I look forward to seeing our community out in force at all of these events!”
This builds upon the success of the BC Fairs, Festivals and Events Program funding in 2021, which provided one-time grants for events to safely return after facing the covid-19 pandemic. These grants for 2023 will support a range of events in locations all over B.C., and associated event costs.
