‘Get your skates ready’: Outdoor rink to open soon in North Vancouver

The 12,000 square feet outdoor skate plaza at the Shipyards is the largest in Metro Vancouver

The Shipyards at the City of North Vancouver is currently preparing the ice for the upcoming skating season, and the opening date to be announced soon.

During the season, the Skate Plaza will be open daily from 1 to 8 pm with 30 minute closures at 3 pm. and 5:30 p.m. for maintenance. Admission to skate is free, but skate rentals are available at $5 for children and $7 for adults, and free skating aides and helmets.

At 12,000 square feet, the outdoor skate plaza at the Shipyards is the largest in Metro Vancouver. During seasonal operations, the skate plaza offers daily skating, as well as free helmets and skate aides. The ice rink opened on December 19, 2019, and as many as 11,000 people visited the new ice rink in The Shipyards in the first two weeks of its launch.

In 2016, the City of North Vancouver chose the Quay Property Management to develop The Shipyards-Lot 5, which provides public amenities such as water splash and outdoor skating rink, along with 84,000 square feet of commercial spaces featuring restaurants, cafes, retail, services and a boutique hotel.
