Ghalib Bhayani is new Officer-In-Charge for North Van RCMP detachment

The City of North Vancouver and District of North Vancouver are pleased to announce the appointment of Superintendent Ghalib Bhayani as the new Officer-In-Charge for the North Vancouver RCMP detachment.

Superintendent Bhayani has a lengthy and diverse policing background, spanning more than 27 years, including ten years with the Delta Police Department and 17 years with the RCMP.

“On behalf of our residents and businesses, I welcome Superintendent Bhayani to our community and the North Vancouver RCMP detachment,” says City of North Vancouver Mayor Linda Buchanan. “Public safety is a community cornerstone and we are so pleased to appoint such an experienced and skilled leader, with such impressive accomplishments to head our RCMP force.”

Superintendent Bhayani has held several posts within the RCMP’s E Division, most recently serving as OIC of Service Delivery in the Operations Strategy Branch. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology, a Master’s Degree in International Diplomacy, and a Doctorate from London Metropolitan University with a focus on police accountability. In 2016, Superintendent Bhayani was deployed to Baghdad, Iraq, as part of Canada’s Ministerial Liaison Team, and was the first RCMP officer to hold this position. His primary area of interest is conflict and justice reform.

I have no doubt, he will be an excellent fit for the detachment and for the citizens in the City of North Vancouver and District of North Vancouver,” says LMD Commander Assistant Commissioner Stephen Thatcher.

I am also humbled to lead the professional and committed women and men of the North Vancouver Detachment. I can’t wait to get started.”

Superintendent Bhayani begins his new position as the North Vancouver RCMP OIC in early August. He replaces former OIC Chris Kennedy who retired earlier this month.
