The Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) is issuing a warning about a Grizzly Bear that was seen near a popular lake in Whistler.
RMOW said it has received confirmation that a Grizzly Bear has been foraging in the Rainbow Lake area of the Alpine Trail Network.
Hikers are being urged to use caution when accessing Whistler’s Alpine Trail network as Grizzly Bears have very large natural ranges.
Trail users are reminded to remain vigilant when travelling in bear country
In April, RMOW had issued a similar warning after after Conservation Officer Service received a report of a grizzly bear sighting in a local neighbourhood.
Meanwhile, RMOW is urging people to:
Never approach a bear. Keep your distance and back away slowly.
Always carry bear spray and know how to use it.
Travel in groups and make noise as you walk.
Watch for signs of bears in the areas such as scat.
Bear sightings can be reported by calling the BC Conservation Officer Service at 1-877-952-7277.
