Grouse Mountain Regional Park to remain closed for two weeks

Staff report
November 3, 2022 7:14am

The Grouse Mountain Regional Park will remain closed until November 14.

Due to  helicopter operations related to building a new gondola, the potential hazards require that the park and all the trails be completely closed to the public, advises Metro Vancouver.

The park will be closed Monday to Saturday during this time, but open on Sundays, but weather permitting.

“When helicopter operations are underway and the park is closed, it is critically important for everyone to stay out of the area. Helicopters will be transporting extremely heavy loads multiple times a day,” says Metro Vancouver.

Meanwhile, backcountry routes are now open at the Lynn Headwaters Regional Park. Although backcountry routes remain open, hikers should be aware that some hazards do exist. For those accessing Hanes Valley or Lynn Lake, be aware that Lynn Creek may be impassable during heavy rain.

Metro Vancouver also cautions that it gets dark in the forest even earlier than 6 pm, so be sure to  carry the 10 essentials, including a headlamp, warm clothing and raingear. Leave enough time to finish your hike in daylight.
